Shimla:

A six-day orientation and training programme for newly selected National Youth Volunteers (NYVs), organised by MY Bharat, Himachal Pradesh, commenced at Sanskriti Sadan, Mandi today.

Sundernagar MLA and BJP Chief Spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal attended the inaugural programme as the chief guest and interacted with and guided the young volunteers participating in the training.

A total of 35 National Youth Volunteers from Mandi, Kullu and Solan districts are taking part in the programme, which is being held from August 17 to 22, 2026. The training aims to familiarise the volunteers with nation-building, youth leadership, community service, social responsibility and various schemes and programmes of MY Bharat.

Addressing the participants, Jamwal said the youth of India constitute the country’s greatest strength and that channelising their energy, talent and potential towards nation-building is one of the most important requirements of the present time.

He said young people are not only the architects of their own future but also have a significant role in strengthening society and the nation in the present. Youth is a stage of life when individuals possess immense capacity to learn, innovate and contribute to society. With proper guidance and opportunities to develop their abilities, young people can become important agents of positive social change.

Jamwal said platforms such as MY Bharat are playing an important role in providing direction and opportunities to the country’s youth. He emphasised that nation-building is not solely the responsibility of governments, but requires active participation from every section of society, particularly young people.

He urged the volunteers to actively engage in areas such as community service, social responsibility, environmental protection, de-addiction campaigns, cleanliness and public awareness.

Emphasising the importance of leadership, Jamwal said leadership does not simply mean holding a position; rather, it means coming forward with a sense of responsibility towards society and working consistently for the welfare of others.

He encouraged the volunteers to treat the orientation programme as more than a formal training exercise and to apply the knowledge and experiences gained during the programme in their personal lives and social initiatives.

Referring to the 35 volunteers from Mandi, Kullu and Solan, he said they have an opportunity to directly connect with young people in their respective districts and motivate them to participate in constructive activities. Each volunteer, he added, can inspire many others, thereby creating a positive chain of youth participation.

Jamwal said India is progressing rapidly and the role of youth in the country’s development is increasing continuously. Harnessing the potential of young people effectively can make a significant contribution towards building a developed, self-reliant and empowered India.

He also stressed the importance of discipline, spirit of service, leadership qualities and commitment to the nation among young people, saying these qualities help shape responsible citizens and effective leaders.

Congratulating MY Bharat, Himachal Pradesh, and the Mandi district team for organising the programme, Jamwal expressed hope that the volunteers would return to their respective districts after the training and actively involve more young people in constructive and nation-building activities.

The training programme will continue until August 22, covering subjects related to youth leadership, community service, social responsibility and various MY Bharat schemes and programmes. Jamwal wished all the participating volunteers success and said the youth of today would determine the direction and future of India.
