NHRC Takes Suo Motu Cognizance of Assault on Two Manipur Men in Delhi’s Munirka.
New Delhi:
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report concerning the alleged physical assault of two men from Manipur in the Munirka area of Delhi. One of the victims reportedly sustained serious head injuries and is currently on a ventilator at a hospital.
According to the NHRC, the incident was reported by the media on August 14, 2026. The report stated that the two men were allegedly assaulted by two persons following a dispute over a minor issue.
Taking note of the reported incident, the Commission observed that, if the allegations contained in the media report are found to be true, they raise serious issues concerning the violation of human rights.
The NHRC has therefore issued a notice to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, seeking a detailed report on the incident within two weeks. The Commission has asked that the report include details of the police investigation as well as the current health condition of the injured victim.
The reported condition of one of the victims has particularly raised concern, as he is said to have suffered serious head injuries and been placed on ventilator support in hospital.
The Commission’s intervention comes amid the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and for appropriate action if the allegations are substantiated.
The NHRC will examine the report submitted by the Delhi Police and take further action as deemed appropriate based on the findings.
