UN Remembers Kofi Annan Eight Years After the Passing of Former Secretary-General.
New York:
The United Nations is remembering former Secretary-General Kofi Annan eight years after his death, honouring the Ghanaian diplomat who was widely regarded as a guiding force for peace, international cooperation and human rights.
Annan, who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1997 to 2006, died on August 18, 2018, at the age of 80. The United Nations has continued to commemorate his legacy and his decades of service to the organisation and the international community.
Reflecting on the importance of diversity and mutual understanding, Annan said in 2001: “We can love what we are, without hating what — and who — we are not. We can thrive in our own tradition, even as we learn from others.”
