NCPCR Rescues Over 3,800 Children from Child Labour Under Pan-India Campaign.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), a statutory body under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, rescued more than 3,800 children from child labour during a special nationwide rescue and rehabilitation campaign conducted between June 12 and August 31, 2026.
The “Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation” Campaign was launched by NCPCR with the objective of intensifying efforts to identify, rescue and rehabilitate children engaged in child labour, as well as those vulnerable to trafficking, exploitation and other forms of abuse.
Coordinated Rescue Operations Across States and UTs
As part of the campaign, NCPCR coordinated with State Governments and Union Territory Administrations, District Magistrates, Labour Departments, police authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen rescue operations.
The Commission issued communications to concerned authorities calling for intensified and targeted operations at identified child labour and trafficking hotspots. States and Union Territories were also requested to regularly provide data on rescue operations, including the number of children rescued, FIRs registered, rehabilitation measures, restoration to families, educational mainstreaming and compensation.
Monitoring and Inter-Departmental Coordination
To monitor the implementation of the campaign and address challenges at the field level, NCPCR held meetings with District Administrations.
The meetings focused on reviewing rescue operations, identifying and resolving operational bottlenecks, ensuring timely submission of Action Taken Reports (ATRs) and strengthening coordination among various departments and agencies involved in child protection.
Awareness and Outreach Efforts
NCPCR also carried out awareness and outreach activities through social media and other communication platforms during the campaign.
The outreach efforts focused on raising awareness about child labour, encouraging the reporting of cases and highlighting the importance of rehabilitation and educational mainstreaming of children following their rescue.
Over 3,800 Children Rescued, More Than 575 FIRs Registered
Through sustained monitoring and proactive coordination with State authorities, NCPCR successfully rescued over 3,800 children during the campaign.
In addition, more than 575 FIRs were registered in connection with cases identified during the campaign, reflecting the intensified enforcement efforts against child labour and related exploitation.
The campaign underscores the importance of coordinated action among child protection authorities, law enforcement agencies, labour departments and district administrations to identify children at risk, secure their immediate rescue and ensure their rehabilitation and reintegration into education and society.
