ITRA Jamnagar and Heartfulness Institute Sign Five-Year MoU to Advance Ayurveda, Holistic Healthcare and Ecological Sustainability.

Partnership to promote research, education, capacity building, integrative wellness and environmental sustainability.

New Delhi:

The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA), an Institute of National Importance at Jamnagar under the Ministry of Ayush, has entered into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Heartfulness Institute (HFI), Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad, to strengthen collaboration in Ayurveda, holistic healthcare, research, education and ecological sustainability.

The partnership seeks to bring together the complementary strengths and expertise of ITRA in Ayurvedic education, clinical practice and research with the Heartfulness Institute’s work in meditation, yoga, lifestyle practices and ecological initiatives. The collaboration is aimed at promoting preventive and holistic healthcare through an integrated approach that combines traditional knowledge, wellness practices and evidence-based research.

The collaboration was highlighted during a Stakeholders’ Consultative Meeting held at Kanha Shanti Vanam. The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Prataprao Jadhav, Padma Bhushan Daji, Dr. Srinivas, Member, NITI Aayog, Padma Shri Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, along with senior representatives from NITI Aayog and various States and Union Territories.

The five-year MoU was signed in August 2026 by Prof. Tanuja Nesari, Director, ITRA, and Kumar Kannan of the Heartfulness Institute.

Focus on research and academic cooperation

Under the agreement, ITRA and HFI will explore opportunities for national and international collaborative research. The partnership will also facilitate student and faculty exchange programmes, academic initiatives, knowledge sharing and capacity-building activities.

Other areas of cooperation include innovation and intellectual property development, along with research and academic initiatives related to disease prevention and integrative wellness. These activities are expected to create greater opportunities for researchers, students, faculty members and practitioners to share knowledge and develop innovative approaches to healthcare.

Promoting preventive and integrative healthcare

The collaboration places particular emphasis on preventive healthcare and holistic well-being. By bringing Ayurveda together with practices such as meditation, yoga and healthy lifestyle approaches, the partnership aims to support a comprehensive model of wellness focused not only on disease management but also on prevention and overall quality of life.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to greater awareness and application of Ayurveda in contemporary healthcare settings through research-backed approaches and collaborative academic programmes.

Linking healthcare with environmental sustainability

Environmental sustainability is another important component of the partnership. The collaboration with Kanha Shanti Vanam provides an opportunity to connect healthcare and wellness initiatives with ecological conservation and sustainable living practices.

The broader approach reflects the growing recognition of the relationship between individual well-being, healthy lifestyles and a sustainable environment.

Aligned with Ministry of Ayush priorities

The MoU is in line with the Ministry of Ayush’s efforts to promote evidence-based research, preventive healthcare, quality education and the wider global acceptance of Ayurveda. It also supports the Ministry’s broader vision of integrating traditional systems of medicine with contemporary approaches to health and wellness.

The partnership between ITRA and the Heartfulness Institute is expected to strengthen institutional cooperation while creating new avenues for research, education, innovation and capacity building. It also aims to contribute to the promotion of holistic health and sustainable development at both national and international levels.
