UN Secretary-General António Guterres Urges World Leaders to Unite for Peace, Justice and Humanity.
New York:
As world leaders gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York City for the General Assembly, UN Secretary-General António Guterres has called on countries to strengthen international cooperation and work together to address the major challenges facing the world.
Welcoming leaders and delegations arriving for the high-level diplomatic gathering, Guterres stressed the importance of unity at a time when global cooperation remains essential to addressing conflicts, humanitarian crises and other international challenges.
“My message to them is clear: Come together for peace, for dignity, for justice and for humanity,” Guterres said.
The Secretary-General emphasized that cooperation among nations is vital to building a more peaceful and equitable international order. He urged governments to maintain their commitment to multilateralism and to work collectively in pursuit of solutions to shared global problems.
“Only with international cooperation can we build a better world – and we should never give up on fighting for it,” he said.
The UN General Assembly brings together leaders and senior representatives from countries around the world for discussions on international peace and security, development, humanitarian concerns and other issues affecting the global community.
Guterres’s appeal places cooperation at the center of the gathering, urging member states to overcome divisions and focus on common goals. His message also underscores the UN’s longstanding emphasis on diplomacy, dialogue and collective action as tools for addressing international challenges.
As the General Assembly gets underway, world leaders are expected to use the high-level session to discuss pressing global issues and explore avenues for greater international cooperation.
