ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise AIME-2026 Begins in Subic Bay, Philippines.

The second edition of the ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2026) commenced at Subic Bay in the Philippines on September 28, bringing together the Indian Navy and maritime forces from ASEAN member states for a series of professional, operational and social engagements.
The exercise is being conducted under the theme “Anchored in Trust, United at Sea” and is aimed at strengthening mutual understanding, cooperation and interoperability among the participating maritime forces.
India is participating in the exercise with Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri and Kulish. Their participation reflects the Indian Navy’s continued engagement with maritime forces of ASEAN countries and its focus on enhancing practical cooperation in the maritime domain.
Opening Ceremony Marks Start of Exercise
The exercise commenced with an opening ceremony attended by participating maritime forces. Ambassador of India to the Philippines Harsh Kumar Jain was the Guest of Honour and addressed the participating personnel.
The initial Harbour Phase will feature a range of professional, operational and social activities designed to facilitate interaction and exchange of expertise among the participating forces.
The programme includes Subject Matter Expert Exchanges, sporting and cultural activities, community engagement and operational synchronisation. A pre-sail briefing will be conducted before the participating forces move into the Sea Phase.
Coordinated Maritime Operations at Sea
Following the Harbour Phase, AIME-2026 will transition to the Sea Phase, during which participating maritime forces will conduct coordinated maritime exercises and various operational serials.
The Sea Phase is intended to enhance professional understanding, operational coordination and interoperability through practical training and coordinated activities at sea.
The exercise provides an opportunity for the participating forces to develop a better understanding of maritime operations and strengthen coordination through joint activities in a practical operational environment.
Strengthening India-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation
The participation of INS Sahyadri and INS Kulish in AIME-2026 underscores India’s continued commitment to strengthening maritime partnerships with ASEAN countries.
The exercise is being conducted in furtherance of India’s Act East Policy and the vision of MAHASAGAR — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.
Through professional exchanges, joint training and coordinated maritime activities, AIME-2026 is expected to further strengthen cooperation and interoperability between India and ASEAN maritime forces while contributing to enhanced maritime engagement and regional cooperation.
