NHRC Seeks Reports on Hidden Camera Incidents in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of alarming reports concerning hidden cameras in washrooms at two separate locations. The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, demanding detailed reports on these incidents.

In Andhra Pradesh, over 300 photos and videos were reportedly captured from a hidden camera in a girls’ hostel washroom at an Engineering College in Krishna district. The discovery, made by a group of students, has led to protests and an ongoing police investigation involving students from the boys’ hostel. In a separate incident in Bengaluru, a hidden camera was found in the washroom of a well-known eatery.

The NHRC has expressed serious concern over these incidents, highlighting potential violations of women’s rights and safety. Authorities have been instructed to provide comprehensive reports on the status of FIRs, actions taken, and preventive measures within two weeks.
