Government Approves Rs 26,000 Crore Deal for 240 Aero-Engines to Boost IAF’s Su-30 MKI Fleet.

New Delhi:

The Cabinet Committee on Security sanctioned a major procurement deal for the Indian Air Force (IAF), approving the acquisition of 240 AL-31FP aero-engines from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) today. Valued at over Rs 26,000 crore, the engines will be sourced under the “Buy (Indian)” category and are set to be delivered over an eight-year period, beginning in one year.

Manufactured at HAL’s Koraput division, these engines will feature over 54% indigenous content due to the local production of key components. The Su-30 MKI, a critical asset in the IAF’s strategic arsenal, will benefit from this supply, ensuring continued operational efficiency and bolstering the nation’s defense readiness.
