New Delhi:

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday hosted Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein at Rashtrapati Bhavan, emphasising the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, advanced manufacturing, innovation and financial services.

The President received Hereditary Prince Alois and Princess Sophie on October 27, 2026, and hosted a banquet in their honour. Welcoming the Prince and his delegation to India, Murmu said his regular engagement and longstanding connection with the country reflected his commitment to strengthening relations between India and Liechtenstein.

She noted that cooperation between the two countries had continued to expand across several sectors, including trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

Highlighting the importance of closer economic ties amid an uncertain geopolitical and geoeconomic environment, the President said strengthening the economic partnership between India and Liechtenstein had become more important than ever.

Murmu pointed to the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), concluded in 2024, as an important step towards deepening trade and investment relations. She expressed confidence that the agreement would open new avenues for cooperation and support stronger economic engagement between the two sides.

The agreement includes a commitment to facilitate $100 billion in investments in India and create one million direct jobs over the next 15 years. According to the President, these commitments would provide a strong foundation for expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

Focus on Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation

The President highlighted the growing interest among Liechtenstein-based companies in expanding their business and technological cooperation with India. Potential areas of collaboration include advanced manufacturing, financial technology (FinTech), agricultural research, sustainable infrastructure, healthcare and material sciences.

She said the two countries could explore further opportunities for skill development and vocational training, particularly by encouraging partnerships between industries and educational institutions.

Emphasising the complementary strengths of the two economies, Murmu said India and Liechtenstein could build a mutually beneficial partnership by combining Liechtenstein’s expertise in advanced manufacturing, innovation and financial services with India’s skilled workforce, manufacturing capabilities and rapidly growing market.

Such cooperation could help both countries explore new business opportunities, strengthen industrial ties and promote technological advancement.

Commitment to Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed that closer cooperation between India and Liechtenstein could bring significant benefits to their people. They also expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across priority sectors.

The engagement reflects the shared interest of the two countries in building stronger economic and technological partnerships, with trade, investment, innovation and human resource development emerging as key areas for future collaboration.
