In a special ceremony held in New Delhi today, President of India, Droupadi Murmu, awarded the National Awards to exceptional teachers from across the country in celebration of Teachers’ Day.

Addressing the assembly, President Murmu emphasized the pivotal role teachers play in shaping not just educated, but also ethical, sensitive, and enterprising citizens. She highlighted that teaching transcends a mere job and is a sacred mission dedicated to human development.

“Teachers must cultivate students who understand that a successful life is defined by contributing to the welfare of others. Compassion and ethical conduct should be integral to education,” President Murmu stated. She also noted that while academic achievements are important, teachers should also nurture other talents such as sports, leadership, and social welfare participation in their students.

President Murmu underscored the critical role of teachers in enhancing the status of women in society. She urged educators and parents to ensure that respect for women is practiced consistently, not just spoken.

Referencing Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the President advised teachers to continually seek knowledge to remain effective in their roles. She expressed confidence that this commitment to learning would keep teaching relevant and engaging.

The President concluded by urging teachers and students to adopt a global perspective and world-class skills, stressing that great teachers are fundamental to building a great nation. She expressed optimism that Indian educators will inspire their students to contribute towards making India a global knowledge hub.
