Shimla:

Mandi Police seized 116 cases of beer allegedly being transported illegally during a checking operation near the Naulakha four-lane flyover on Tuesday.

According to the police, the operation was conducted by Dhanotu Police Station as part of the district-wide campaign against illegal activities and substance abuse.

During a routine checkpoint inspection, police stopped a pickup jeep (HP65A3608) travelling from Sundernagar towards Mandi. During the search, 116 cases of beer containing 1,392 glass bottles, with a total volume of 9,04,800 ml, were recovered concealed beneath empty plastic vegetable crates.

The seized consignment included 110 cases of Tuborg beer and six cases of Kingfisher beer marked ‘Sale in Punjab Only’.

The driver failed to produce valid documents authorising the transportation of the consignment. Consequently, the police seized the beer and registered FIR No. 142/2026 dated November 3, 2026, under Section 39(1)(a) of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

Mandi Police said the drive against illegal liquor and other unlawful activities would continue across the district.
