Former Lahaul-Spiti MLA Welcomes Centre’s Decision, Says Move Will Open New Career Opportunities for Youth.

Shimla:

Former Lahaul-Spiti MLA and BJP State Working Committee member Ravi Thakur has welcomed the Central Government’s decision to provide Agniveers an opportunity to serve for an additional two years after completing their initial four-year tenure under the Agnipath scheme.

Thakur said the decision, taken by the Union Cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflects the government’s commitment to securing the future of young people serving in the Indian Armed Forces.

He said the initiative, under the leadership of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, demonstrates the government’s recognition of Agniveers’ contribution to national security and its positive approach towards their future.

Under the revised arrangement, 25 per cent of Agniveers will continue to be inducted into regular service based on eligibility and merit, as per the existing provision. The remaining 75 per cent will have the option of undertaking an additional two years of service. Thereafter, those fulfilling the prescribed selection criteria will be eligible for consideration for regular soldier positions.

During the extended service period, Agniveers will also receive improved remuneration, enhanced Seva Nidhi packages and seniority-related benefits, according to the announcement.

Thakur said the decision would provide young personnel with an opportunity to gain further experience, strengthen their professional skills and pursue longer careers in the armed forces.

He added that the initiative would benefit both Agniveers and the military by helping develop a more experienced, skilled and capable force.

He said the courage, discipline, sacrifice and dedication of Agniveers serving the nation deserved the highest respect.
