New Delhi:

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the 10th convocation of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital today, where she underscored the importance of compassion in medical practice.

In her address, President Murmu urged doctors to ensure a “healing touch” in their interactions with patients and their families, particularly during distressing times. She acknowledged the emotional turmoil often experienced by relatives of patients and emphasized the need for doctors to exhibit empathy and reassurance.

The President addressed the issue of patient misbehavior towards healthcare professionals, calling it unacceptable and highlighting that doctors work tirelessly to save lives. She reminded the audience that the complexities of medicine sometimes lead to unforeseen outcomes, which should not result in hostility towards medical staff.

Murmu also spotlighted the need for more research into women’s health issues, encouraging the medical community to focus on understanding diseases that disproportionately affect women. She noted the advancements in science and technology, such as telemedicine and artificial intelligence, and urged doctors to stay updated with new research and methodologies to enhance patient care.

The convocation served as a platform for reinforcing the critical role of sensitivity and ongoing learning in the healthcare sector, paving the way for improved public health outcomes in India.
