Over 200 stranded tourists evacuated safely out of snowbound Spiti to Kinnaur by the Kaza administration. with the help of Police and BRO.
Shimla:
Over 200 stranded tourists have been evacuated safely out of snowbound Spiti valley of tribal district Lahaul and Spiti today by the Kaza administration. The administration took help of Border Roads Organisation and Police to transport the stranded tourists towards Kinnaur from Spiti valley in 4×4 vehicles, which were suitable to drive on snowy road.
The tourists were trapped in the valley for the last five days because of heavy snowfall in the region. Majority of roads were blocked including Sumdo-Kaza-Gramphu highway, which connect Spiti valley to Kinnaur district.
After heavy snowfall, apart from roads blockade, power supply and communication services were disrupted completely in the entire Lahaul and Spiti district. Disruption in communication services had disconnected the stranded tourists from their families. As a result, the families of these stranded tourists had got panicked.
As weather improved in the region for the last two days, the Border Roads Organisation has restored road between Kaza and Kinnaur today for the movement of 4×4 vehicles in the region.
The SP Lahaul and Spiti Mayank Chaudhary said that over 200 tourists were evacuated by the Kaza administration with the help of BRO and police in 4×4 vehicles today. Few tourists are staying in Spiti as per their choice.
Due to blockade of roads, disruption in power supply and communication service, the stranded tourists could not communicate with their families. However, the police had ensured communication of few tourists with their families through satellite phones, which gave them little relief.
