Prayagraj:

The city of Prayagraj is set to host a remarkable environmental initiative in conjunction with the upcoming Mahakumbh, which will be centered around the theme of environmental protection. On January 31st, Prayagraj will witness the Green Mahakumbh, a one-of-a-kind event bringing together over 1,000 environmental and water conservation experts from across the country. This significant event is part of the larger Gyan Mahakumbh – 2081 series, and will be presided over by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who is serving as the chief patron.

The Green Mahakumbh is designed to promote awareness on environmental issues such as water conservation, cleanliness, and the protection of nature. During the event, a national-level discussion will be held to explore critical concerns related to maintaining the balance of the five elements of nature, as well as the various challenges these elements are facing. Experts from different domains will share valuable insights and experiences on tackling environmental issues, providing solutions to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come. The discussions will also include strategies to raise awareness among Mahakumbh visitors about the significance of environmental protection and the ongoing cleanliness campaigns.

As part of the larger Clean Mahakumbh initiative, various government agencies, public representatives, and local citizens have come together to ensure the event’s success. In a bid to further promote cleanliness, the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation organized the Swachhata Rath Yatra on January 7th, an outreach initiative aimed at fostering public awareness about cleanliness ahead of the Mahakumbh.

The Swachhata Rath Yatra, which began today, will travel along the Mahakumbh Nagar route and has been designed to inspire a collective effort to maintain a clean environment for the millions of visitors expected during the grand religious and cultural event.

Prayagraj Mayor, Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani, described the Yatra as a “Jan Jagran Yatra,” aimed at making the city clean, healthy, and disciplined. He urged citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings by avoiding littering, using dustbins, and refraining from the use of single-use plastics.

The Swachhata Rath Yatra has seen significant community participation, with locals actively supporting the cause. One of the highlights of the event has been the involvement of street play artists, who performed alongside the chariot, carrying colorful dustbins and spreading awareness about waste segregation. They demonstrated the importance of separating wet and dry waste by using distinct bins for each.

In addition to the street plays, a cleanliness-themed music band accompanied the Yatra, further amplifying the message of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment in Prayagraj during the Mahakumbh. The event also saw the active participation of Safai Mitras (sanitation workers) and Municipal Corporation staff, underscoring the crucial role they play in keeping the city spotless and welcoming for the visitors.

The efforts to integrate environmental protection with the Mahakumbh reflect a broader commitment to sustainability, ensuring that this grand spiritual gathering also champions the protection of our planet. With such initiatives, Prayagraj is setting an inspiring example of how large-scale cultural events can serve as platforms for fostering environmental consciousness and action.
