PM Modi Co-Chairs AI Action Summit in Paris, Calls for Global Efforts on AI Governance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi co-chaired the AI Action Summit today in Paris alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit, a week-long event that began on February 6, culminated in a high-level segment attended by global leaders, policymakers, and industry experts.
The summit’s discussions focused on the future of artificial intelligence (AI) and its transformative potential for society, emphasizing the need for collective global efforts in shaping its governance. In his opening address, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that AI was rapidly becoming a cornerstone of this century, reshaping human lives, economies, and societies.
“A time has come when AI is writing the code for humanity,” said the Prime Minister, stressing the need for international cooperation in establishing governance frameworks that not only address the risks posed by AI but also promote innovation and uphold shared global values. He emphasized the importance of building trust through responsible governance and democratizing AI access, particularly for the Global South, to make the vision of sustainable development goals (SDGs) a reality.
The Prime Minister also underscored the transformative potential of AI in sectors such as health, education, and agriculture, which could positively impact millions of lives globally. He called for investments in skilling and re-skilling people to prepare for an AI-driven future.
“AI can help transform millions of lives by improving health, education, agriculture, and so much more,” he remarked, reinforcing India’s commitment to advancing AI for public good. He further emphasized India’s ongoing efforts to develop AI applications aimed at benefiting society and announced that India would host the next AI Summit.
On India’s AI journey, Prime Minister Modi shared the country’s progress in building a robust Digital Public Infrastructure for its 1.4 billion citizens, based on open and accessible technology. He highlighted India’s development of its own Large Language Model for AI, designed to cater to its unique linguistic and cultural diversity.
The summit concluded with the adoption of a Leaders’ Statement, reinforcing commitments on critical themes such as greater access to AI infrastructure, diversity in AI development, and ensuring safe, trusted governance of the technology.
With the summit’s end, leaders reaffirmed their dedication to making AI a force for good, ensuring it is used responsibly and inclusively to benefit all of humanity.
