Himachal Pradesh Government Approves Rs. 80 Crore Ropeway Project to Boost Kullu Tourism.
Shimla:
The Himachal Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, is making strides to enhance the state’s tourism infrastructure. In a bid to promote Kullu’s tourism, the government has approved the construction of an Aerial Ropeway connecting Kullu Bus Stand to Peej Paragliding Point. The project, estimated at Rs. 80 crore, is set to improve accessibility and stimulate economic growth in the region.
The 1.20-kilometer ropeway is expected to provide a safe and efficient transport option for visitors, making it easier to reach Peej, a village 12 kilometers from Kullu by road. Peej is the gateway to the scenic Lug Valley, and the development of this ropeway will provide greater access to this picturesque area.
The initiative is expected to significantly boost tourism, especially for adventure enthusiasts, by offering easy access to Peej Paragliding Point. This site is increasingly popular with both novice and experienced paragliders, making it an ideal destination for adventure sports. Additionally, the project aligns with the government’s broader strategy to enhance adventure tourism, religious tourism, and water sports across Himachal Pradesh.
A government spokesperson emphasized the importance of eco-tourism and conservation efforts, noting that the ropeway would help showcase the state’s wilderness and natural ecosystems, while ensuring their protection. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create world-class tourism infrastructure in the state, which is recognized as a crucial sector of Himachal Pradesh’s economy.
Tourism has been flourishing in Himachal Pradesh, with approximately 2 crore visitors annually. With its majestic mountains, pristine rivers, and diverse trekking opportunities, the state continues to attract both domestic and international tourists. The state government remains committed to utilizing every opportunity in the tourism sector to further boost the local economy and create new employment opportunities for locals.
