State Government should send specialist doctors to Kaza and Keylong hospitals in Lahaul and Spiti, those willing to serve here, says Zila Parishad chief Anuradha Rana.
Shimla:
Anuradha Rana, chief of Zila Parishad Lahaul and Spiti has urged the state government to send specialist doctors to Kaza and Keylong hospitals in tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti, those willing to serve here.
She said that due to lack of specialist doctors, patients of this tribal district are on the mercy of God, especially during winter, when traffic movement become standstill for days or weeks because of heavy snowfall in this region. This district is known as cold desert of Himachal Pradesh.
“People in the snowbound Lahaul and Spiti are already facing adverse geographical conditions. Due to lack of specialist doctors, patients have to go to Kullu, risking their lives. Keylong and Kaza hospitals have been granted the status of model hospitals by the government. But the lack of specialist doctors here has made the lives of the patients even more difficult” she remarked.
“People of this district have been demanding the deployment of medicine, eye, gynaecology and pediatric specialist doctors for the past many years but to no avail. It came in to notice that some specialist doctors are willing to provide their services in Lahaul and Spiti. But despite this, the government is not showing interest in sending these doctors to this district. Recently, some seriously ill patients of the valley had to sit at home for several days and wait for the helicopter to reach Kullu” she remarked.
Anuradha Rana said that specialist doctors like pediatrician, gynaecology and medicine should be deployed in Keylong and Kaza hospitals on priority basis to provide better medical care facilities to the area residents.
“During winter, in a district with adverse geographical conditions like Lahaul and Spiti, it takes several days for patients to get out of the valley despite being referred from local hospitals in the district. In such a situation, deployment of specialist doctors here is very important, especially in winter”, she remarked.
“Whereas patients from other districts of the state can easily go to Shimla, Chandigarh and Delhi for treatment in case of emergency” she added.
Anuradha Rana requested the Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to send such doctors to the valley immediately. Zila Parishad members Bina Kumari, Dorje Larje, Kunga Bodh and panchayat pradhan Ajit Singh have also requested the CM that such specialist doctors should be sent to Lahaul and Spiti in the larger public interest.
