CM Sukhu Unveils Dr. Ambedkar’s Statue, Announces New Health Departments at Hamirpur Medical College on Ambedkar Jayanti.
Development Projects Worth Rs. 38 Crore Dedicated to the Region.

Marking the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu unveiled a statue of the chief architect of the Indian Constitution at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office complex in Hamirpur today. In a significant move aimed at enhancing regional infrastructure and public welfare, the CM also inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth approximately Rs. 38 crore.
The event, organized by the Congress Party’s Scheduled Castes Department, witnessed a massive turnout of local citizens and leaders. Paying heartfelt tributes to Dr. Ambedkar, the Chief Minister praised his unparalleled contribution in laying the foundation of a just, inclusive, and equitable society through the Indian Constitution. “Dr. Ambedkar’s ideals continue to inspire our vision of a self-reliant and prosperous Himachal Pradesh,” CM Sukhu said.
During his address, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of Nephrology and Neurology departments at Hamirpur Medical College, following the recent inauguration of its Cardiology wing. These additions aim to bring advanced kidney and neurological care to the region. Further bolstering healthcare, the CM stated that Rs. 85 crore has already been sanctioned for a dedicated Cancer Care Institute in Hamirpur.
CM Sukhu emphasized the government’s broader focus on strengthening health and education infrastructure despite fiscal challenges. He highlighted irregularities in the establishment of institutions by the previous administration and assured that the current government is taking steps to ensure proper budgeting and infrastructure planning.
In the education sector, the CM reiterated the government’s commitment to providing quality education through initiatives like Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools. He also underlined key welfare measures announced in the State Budget, including the increase in minimum support prices for natural farming produce and enhanced daily wages under MGNREGA, aimed at empowering the rural economy.
The unveiled statue of Dr. Ambedkar, installed at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh, stands as a symbol of social justice and democratic values. The Chief Minister also inaugurated the following infrastructure projects:
Residential buildings for the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (Rs. 5.08 crore)
Revenue Colony (Rs. 2.01 crore)
Sub Health Centre and staff quarters at Dharog (Rs. 4.42 crore)
Farmers Advisory Centre (Rs. 1.71 crore)
Foundation stones were laid for several new initiatives including:
A heliport at Jaskot (Rs. 18.42 crore)
A Mechanical Block at Polytechnic College, Baroo (Rs. 1 crore)
Bhagot-Fafan road project (Rs. 5.26 crore)
Prominent dignitaries present included Chief Minister’s Political Advisor Sunil Sharma Bittu, MLAs Suresh Kumar and Captain Ranjit Singh Rana, and several key Congress leaders and local representatives who contributed to the statue’s installation.
The day concluded with a message of inclusive growth and a renewed pledge to uphold Dr. Ambedkar’s values in governance and public service.
