CM Sukhu Vows Modern Tech Upgrade for Fire Services and Home Guards, Announces Recruitment Drive.
Shimla:
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced significant steps to modernize Himachal Pradesh’s fire services and Home Guards while presiding over the closing ceremony of Fire Service Week at the State Fire Training Centre in Baldeyan, Shimla.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening disaster response, the Chief Minister announced that recruitment of 700 new Home Guards will begin soon. He also flagged off 13 new fire-fighting vehicles to improve the department’s emergency response across the state.
Paying tribute to fire personnel, the CM visited the Shaheed Smarak and declared Rs. 5 lakh financial assistance each for the families of Martyrs Joginder Pal and Ghanshyam, who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2009 in Nalagarh, district Solan.
“Protecting life and property in extreme conditions is not just duty, it’s noble service,” Sukhu said while praising the bravery and dedication of fire, police, and home guard personnel. He especially acknowledged their critical role during the 2023 monsoon disaster.
The CM said efforts are underway to equip fire and Home Guard services with modern technology, keeping in view the state’s vulnerability to natural disasters. He also inspected an exhibition by the fire department and took the salute during a ceremonial parade led by Nitin Dhiman.
CM Sukhu stated that despite facing political challenges and natural disasters, the government is working hard to make the state self-reliant. He claimed that over Rs. 2200 crore in additional revenue was generated by closing corruption loopholes left by the previous BJP government.
He further revealed that education and health reforms are on the cards, including plans to introduce the CBSE curriculum in 100 government schools and enhance healthcare services across the state.
Fire Services Director Satwant Atwal welcomed the Chief Minister and shared insights into the department’s work. The event was attended by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh, Shimla Mayor Surender Chauhan, CM’s OSD Gopal Sharma, and senior officials.
