India and U.S. Make Headway in Bilateral Trade Talks During Washington Meet.

Washington, D.C.:

In a significant development toward strengthening India-U.S. economic relations, officials from India’s Department of Commerce and the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative concluded a productive round of discussions in Washington, D.C. from April 23–25, 2025. The meetings are part of ongoing negotiations for a comprehensive Bilateral Trade Agreement.

This latest round follows earlier discussions held in March 2025 in New Delhi. The talks covered a broad range of tariff and non-tariff issues and focused on outlining a clear roadmap for finalizing the first phase of the trade pact by Fall 2025. Both sides explored early mutual benefits across multiple sectors as part of this agreement.

While several sector-specific discussions have already taken place virtually, in-person expert-level engagements are scheduled to begin at the end of May.

The talks reflect continued efforts under the February 2025 Leaders’ Statement to deepen India-U.S. trade ties and strengthen supply chain cooperation across both nations. Officials described the Washington meetings as “fruitful” and emphasized the importance of sustained momentum in the months ahead.
