CM Sukhu Orders Clearance of Compassionate Employment Backlog Within One Year.

Shimla:

In a significant move to provide relief to families of deceased government employees, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday directed the concerned departments to clear the backlog of compassionate employment cases within a year. Chairing a high-level meeting on the Compassionate Employment Policy, the Chief Minister emphasized the state government’s commitment to ensuring timely support to the affected families.

As part of this directive, the income eligibility criteria for compassionate employment will be raised from the existing Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh per annum, thereby broadening the scope of beneficiaries.

The Chief Minister announced that the backlog will be addressed in three systematic phases. In the first phase, priority will be given to widows and orphans under the age of 45 years. Currently, there are 141 widows and 159 orphans who fall under this category.

In the second phase, preference will be given to other eligible candidates from low-income groups, followed by the remaining applicants in the third and final phase.

“Our goal is to provide timely assistance to the most vulnerable families and bring more transparency and efficiency to the compassionate employment process,” said CM Sukhu.

The meeting was attended by Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, along with senior officials including Principal Secretary Devesh Kumar, Secretaries M. Sudha Devi and Rakesh Kanwar, and Secretary Law Sharad Kumar Lagwal.

This decision is expected to bring hope to hundreds of families awaiting government support, reaffirming the state’s resolve to uphold compassionate governance.
