12th National Handloom Day Celebrated with Enthusiasm at Bhuttico Auditorium in Kullu.

The 12th National Handloom Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the auditorium of Bhuttico in Kullu district under the aegis of the Weavers’ Service Centre, Shamshi, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Hundreds of weavers, employees and representatives associated with the handloom sector participated in the celebration and marked the occasion with pride and enthusiasm.
On the occasion, former minister and Chairman of Bhuttico, Satya Prakash Thakur, extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all weavers on National Handloom Day through video conferencing.
Addressing the gathering, Thakur expressed his gratitude to the Weavers’ Service Centre, Shamshi, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and the National Handloom Development Corporation for introducing and implementing various developmental schemes aimed at improving the welfare and economic condition of weavers.
He said that several welfare-oriented initiatives have benefited weavers and contributed towards strengthening their financial condition. He particularly highlighted the various facilities being provided to the weavers associated with Bhuttico, including leave benefits, pension after retirement, gratuity, provident fund and Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) facilities.
Thakur said that the strong foundation laid by the late Ved Ram Thakur, who was regarded as the guiding force behind the organisation, had played a significant role in making these welfare measures possible. He noted that Bhuttico has consistently worked for the welfare of its weavers and has established a distinct identity through recognition and awards at both the national and international levels.
He also expressed special gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh, the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Government of India, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Industries Minister Harsh Vardhan Singh Chauhan for their continued support and initiatives for the welfare and development of weavers.
The celebration also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the important contribution of the handloom sector to India’s cultural heritage, rural employment and economic development. The participants emphasised the need for continued government and institutional support to preserve traditional weaving skills while creating better livelihood and market opportunities for weavers.
Among those present on the occasion were Bhuttico Vice-Chairman Mohar Singh, members of the Board of Directors Madan Lal, Atma Ram, Indira Devi and Jogdhyan, Chief General Manager Surti Devi, Chief Advisor Ramesh Thakur, General Manager Kishan Chand, and Dinesh Thakur, Anuj Thakur, Kavita Thakur, Om Prakash, Mani Ram, Mohar Singh, Jaidev, Lekh Raj, Sunil, Gaurav, Bahadur Singh and Mahender Singh, besides hundreds of weavers and employees.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting the handloom sector, safeguarding the traditional skills of weavers and ensuring greater welfare and economic opportunities for the handloom community.
