Retired Forest Officers Mark Environment Day with Tree Plantation Drive at Nature Park Mohal in Kullu.
Kullu:
In a heartening tribute to World Environment Day, a group of retired forest officers led by B.S. Rana, a native of Lahaul and Spiti district, organized a tree plantation drive at Nature Park, Mohal in Kullu district on Thursday June 5. As part of the initiative, three Peepal saplings were planted — a symbolic gesture to promote environmental awareness and ecological sustainability.
The initiative took an inspiring turn when a group of students and faculty from Government Primary School, Tegubehar, coincidentally visiting the park, joined in the noble effort. The children participated enthusiastically, turning the occasion into an impromptu awareness session on the importance of tree planting and environmental conservation.
Five retired forest officers — R.S. Rathour, H.S. Paul, Tejasvi Bharti, Mohinder Sharma, and B.S. Rana — were joined by retired Chief Judicial Magistrate Jaswal in the green effort. Together, they emphasized the critical role of citizen participation in preserving natural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Rana highlighted the environmental significance of the Peepal tree and stressed the importance of instilling eco-consciousness among the younger generation. “It was heartening to see the school children take such active interest. This is how we build a greener tomorrow,” he said.
The event underscored the value of community involvement and intergenerational collaboration in nurturing the environment. With growing concern over climate change and deforestation, such local initiatives serve as meaningful steps toward building a sustainable future.
