CM Orders Scientific Probe into Alarming Apple Disease as Growers Report Major Crop Losses.

Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has ordered a swift and scientific investigation into a mysterious disease that is rapidly affecting apple orchards across Himachal Pradesh, following urgent appeals from concerned apple growers.

A delegation of orchardists met the Chief Minister in Shimla today, expressing grave concern over the new affliction that has begun turning apple leaves yellow and causing them to fall prematurely—leading to a drastic drop in yields. The growers warned of significant economic losses if the spread of the disease is not checked in time.

Responding with urgency, CM Sukhu immediately contacted the Vice Chancellor of Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, instructing him to deploy expert teams to the affected areas without delay. He directed the teams to conduct a thorough scientific investigation and educate farmers on necessary control and prevention measures on-site.

“The disease is spreading at an alarming rate, posing a serious threat to the livelihoods of thousands of families dependent on apple farming,” the Chief Minister said. “The state government will not stand idle. Swift and science-based action is the need of the hour.”

The Vice Chancellor has been tasked with submitting a comprehensive report within seven days, outlining the nature of the disease, its causes, and immediate steps for mitigation. The CM assured the visiting delegation that the state government is fully committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers and fruit growers and will provide every possible support to contain the outbreak.

“Apple farming is the backbone of our state’s economy, and the wellbeing of our orchardists is a top priority,” CM Sukhu added.

Principal Advisor (Media) to the Chief Minister, Naresh Chauhan, was also present during the meeting.
