Describing Manipur as the “crown jewel adorning the crest of Mother India,” the Prime Minister hailed the region’s historical, cultural, and strategic significance. He called for sustained peace and development, emphasizing that dialogue and harmony between the hills and the valley are essential for the state’s progress.

  • Four new all-women Ima Markets in different districts

These projects, the Prime Minister said, would not only create thousands of job opportunities but also significantly improve public service delivery, digital infrastructure, and women-led entrepreneurship in the state.

“Manipur is a Land of Potential and Courage”

Highlighting Manipur’s contribution to the freedom struggle and national defence, Modi recalled Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s words describing Manipur as the gateway to India’s independence. He noted the hoisting of the Indian National Army’s flag on Manipuri soil and paid tribute to the state’s martyrs and soldiers, especially Shaheed Deepak Chingkham, who lost his life during Operation Sindoor.

“Even today, many sons and daughters from Manipur are proudly serving the nation across India’s defence forces,” said the Prime Minister.

Focus on Infrastructure and Connectivity

The Prime Minister announced that two mega projects are underway:

  • Manipur Urban Roads Project – Over Rs. 3,600 crore
  • Manipur Infotech Development Project – Over Rs. 500 crore

He added that these initiatives will modernize roads, enhance digital infrastructure, and position Imphal as one of India’s model cities under the Smart City Mission.

He also reiterated the government’s focus on expanding National Highways and ensuring last-mile road connectivity to every village in the state.

Support for Women and Youth

Modi emphasized the vital role of Manipuri women in the state’s economy and society, describing Ima Keithel (Mother’s Market) as a shining example of women-led enterprise.

“Four new Ima Markets have been inaugurated today. These are not just markets, but centres of empowerment for the mothers and daughters of Manipur,” he said.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s investment in youth development. He cited the establishment of:

  • National Sports University in Manipur
  • Marjing Polo Complex (home to the world’s tallest polo statue)
  • Olympian Park honoring local sporting heroes

He said these projects align with the recently launched Khelo India Niti, which aims to transform India into a global sports powerhouse with Manipur playing a pivotal role.

Economic Relief and Tourism Boost

To ease the cost of living and boost local tourism, the Prime Minister announced a significant reduction in GST on essential items such as:

  • Soap, shampoo, hair oil
  • Clothing and footwear
  • Cement and construction materials
  • Hotel stays and food services

“These changes will help families save more and attract more tourists, benefiting everyone from taxi drivers to homestay operators,” he said.

Rebuilding Peace and Restoring Normalcy

Acknowledging the difficult months of unrest in the state, Modi reiterated the Centre’s commitment to peace and rehabilitation. He announced:

  • 7,000 new houses for displaced families

“The new Police Headquarters will play a crucial role in restoring order and ensuring safety for all,” he added.

A Message to Nepal

In a unique diplomatic gesture, Modi also addressed the people of Nepal, congratulating Sushila Ji on becoming the country’s first woman Prime Minister.

“On behalf of 140 crore Indians, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Sushila Ji. I am confident she will guide Nepal toward peace, prosperity, and stability,” said Modi. He also praised Nepal’s youth for their recent civic participation, calling it a sign of a national resurgence.

A Vision for the Future

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister urged the people of Manipur to stay united and focused on development.

“In the 21st century, India’s development is incomplete without the development of Manipur. This land has limitless potential. Let us strengthen the bridge of dialogue and harmony between the hills and the valley. Together, Manipur can become a powerful centre of India’s growth,” he said.

The event was attended by the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with senior government officials and thousands of citizens.
