The district-level Under-19 girls’ sports tournament commenced today with great enthusiasm at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School at Sundernagar in Mandi district. The three-day sporting event was inaugurated by former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and senior Congress leader, Sohan Lal Thakur, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The tournament has brought together nearly 450 talented girl athletes from 18 zones across the district, who will compete in 11 major sporting disciplines. The event aims to promote athletic talent, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among young female students.

Addressing the gathering, Sohan Lal Thakur expressed his delight at witnessing such a vibrant display of sporting spirit among the youth. He praised the organizing committee for their commendable efforts in putting together the event and extended his heartfelt gratitude for the warm welcome and honor he received.

“I extend my best wishes to all participating athletes,” he said. “May you all play with true sportsmanship and bring pride to your schools, regions, and the entire district through your performances.”

The inauguration ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, sports officials, and local residents, highlighting the growing importance of sports in the academic and personal development of young girls.

The tournament will continue over the next two days, featuring a range of competitions including athletics, volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, and more. The event not only serves as a platform for showcasing talent but also plays a vital role in empowering young girls through sports.
