Elder Brother of Himachal BJP President Arrested for Alleged Rape at Solan Clinic.
Solan:
In a major blow and significant embarrassment to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Himachal Pradesh, Ram Kumar Bindal, the elder brother of state BJP president Rajeev Bindal, was arrested by the Solan police on Friday for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman at his ayurvedic clinic on Mall Road.
The arrest follows a complaint lodged by the woman at the women’s police station on October 8. According to Solan Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Singh, the complainant reported visiting Bindal’s clinic, located near the old bus stand, on October 7 for treatment of a pre-existing medical condition.
The woman detailed in her complaint that during the consultation, Ram Kumar Bindal allegedly behaved inappropriately, including holding her hand, pressing her veins, and questioning her about her sexual health. She further stated that after she confided in him about her medical concerns, he promised her a complete cure and showed her a medical book.
However, the situation escalated when Bindal allegedly insisted on examining her private parts. Despite the woman’s strong refusal and objection, he reportedly proceeded to sexually assault and rape her under the guise of a medical examination.
Following the serious allegation, a team from the State Forensic Science Laboratory was dispatched to the crime scene to inspect the clinic and collect necessary evidence. Based on the victim’s statement, the forensic findings, and technical evidence gathered during the investigation, the Solan police arrested Ram Kumar Bindal, a resident of Bindal Colony, Solan, as confirmed by SP Gaurav Singh.
BJP State President Expresses Shock, Suggests ‘Conspiracy’
BJP Himachal president Rajeev Bindal expressed profound shock, calling the allegations “deeply disturbing for the family.” He noted that Ram Kumar Bindal is an 80-year-old man, a highly respected ayurvedic doctor in the state, and has grandchildren.
While acknowledging the gravity of the charges, Rajeev Bindal described the incident as a “new low” and suggested that it could potentially be a conspiracy. He urged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter, questioning the capability of an octogenarian to commit such an act. The state unit’s president’s comments hint at the political and personal turmoil caused by the arrest of a close relative on such serious criminal charges.
The police investigation is ongoing, and the arrest of the high-profile individual on charges of sexual assault has sent shockwaves through the political and medical communities in Himachal Pradesh.
