Pencak Silat Players in Himachal Pradesh to Now Get Sports Quota Benefit in Government Jobs.
Shimla:
In a landmark decision, the Himachal Pradesh Government has announced the inclusion of 19 sports disciplines under the sports quota for government jobs, marking a major boost for sportspersons across the state. Among the newly recognized sports is Pencak Silat, a martial art form that has rapidly gained popularity among the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
The inclusion of Pencak Silat under the sports quota has sparked joy and enthusiasm among athletes and coaches associated with the sport. With this move, talented players will now have a golden opportunity to secure government employment through their sporting achievements.
Introduced in Himachal Pradesh in 2018, Pencak Silat has quickly become a favorite martial art among children and young athletes. The Himachal Pradesh Pencak Silat Association has so far successfully organized five state-level championships, covering categories such as pre-teen, sub-junior, junior, senior, and master divisions.
Athletes from the state have not only excelled at the state level but have also represented Himachal Pradesh at national and international competitions, earning medals and recognition for the region.
At present, eight districts in the state have active Pencak Silat units working under the association, helping to train young players and expand the sport’s reach.
Expressing gratitude towards the government, Joginder Singh Azad, President of the Himachal Pradesh Pencak Silat Association, praised the decision as “commendable and visionary.”
“This move by the state government will infuse new energy among our players and encourage the growth of Pencak Silat across Himachal,” Azad said.
He extended heartfelt thanks to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Sports Minister Yadvinder Singh Goma, and the Director of Sports on behalf of the association and the players.
This progressive step by the Himachal Pradesh Government not only recognizes emerging sports like Pencak Silat but also reflects the state’s commitment to promoting diverse athletic talent and empowering youth through sports.
