PM Keir Starmer Urges Vigilance Against Antisemitism on Holocaust Memorial Day.
London:
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has paid tribute to the victims of the Holocaust, describing it as “one of the darkest stains on humanity,” as the country marked Holocaust Memorial Day.
In a solemn statement, the Prime Minister recalled the systematic murder of six million Jews, emphasising that each victim was an individual life destroyed by a hatred that sought to erase the Jewish people entirely. He said the scale and intent of the Holocaust must never be forgotten, warning that remembrance is essential to guarding against denial, distortion and the resurgence of prejudice.
“As we mark Holocaust Memorial Day, we confront that truth directly,” the Prime Minister said, underlining that remembrance serves as the first line of defence against antisemitism and historical revisionism.
PM Starmer stressed the importance of collective responsibility in challenging antisemitism wherever it appears, adding that reflection on the past must translate into action in the present. He called on society to stand united against hatred in all its forms and to ensure that the lessons of history continue to guide future generations.
The Prime Minister concluded by reaffirming the enduring pledge of “never again,” stating that it must remain a promise upheld through vigilance and action, not merely a phrase repeated in remembrance ceremonies.
Holocaust Memorial Day is observed annually to honour the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides, and to encourage reflection on the consequences of hatred, discrimination and indifference in today’s world.
