Book Advocating Innovation and Global Best Practices in Education Unveiled in Mandi by Education Minister Rohit Thakur.
Shimla:
Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Wednesday released a thought-provoking book titled “Bemisaal Shiksha Se Bana Bemisaal Desh” (An Exceptional Nation Built Through Exceptional Education), authored by senior educationist and recently promoted Principal Ashok Thakur. The book release took place during a programme organised by Bharat Scouts and Guides at Rewalsar in Mandi district.
Addressing the gathering, Education Minister Rohit Thakur lauded the author for his meaningful contribution to educational literature and said that such works play a vital role in guiding reforms in the education system. He emphasised that innovation, global exposure, reflective teaching practices and learner-centric approaches are the need of the hour to strengthen the teaching-learning process. The Minister added that preparing students for future challenges requires continuous upgradation of teaching methodologies and administrative outlook.
The Minister further stated that education should not remain limited to textbooks and examinations but must focus on holistic development, creativity and life skills. He said that the ideas presented in the book align with the government’s vision of building a progressive, inclusive and future-ready education system.
Author Ashok Thakur, while sharing insights about his book, said that the content is largely inspired by his participation in a week-long international teachers’ training and exposure programme in Singapore, sponsored by the Himachal Pradesh Education Department last year. The programme aimed at studying advanced teaching techniques, school leadership models, classroom management strategies and student-centric learning practices adopted in Singapore.
He explained that the book documents his observations and learnings from Singapore’s globally acclaimed education system, which is known for its discipline, innovation, efficiency and emphasis on joyful learning. Through this work, he has made a sincere attempt to shift the perception of education from being a burden to becoming an engaging, meaningful and joyful process.
Ashok Thakur highlighted that education is the backbone of national development and plays a decisive role in shaping the social, economic and moral fabric of society. He noted that schools in developed nations act as nurturing centres for producing skilled, responsible and ethical citizens, which ultimately drives national progress. Drawing inspiration from this model, the book urges educators, administrators and policymakers to adopt a progressive mindset.
The author further said that the central objective of the book is to bring about mental and professional transformation among teachers and principals. He stressed that teaching is not merely a profession but a mission that demands commitment, passion and continuous self-learning. According to him, dedicated educators who embrace innovation and joyful teaching practices can help students realise their full potential and contribute effectively to nation-building.
Ashok Thakur has been the recipient of several prestigious honours for his contributions to education and public service. He was awarded the Himachal Teacher Award by the Governor in 2023 and was also honoured by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for his commendable role in disaster management. In addition, he has received the Exceptional Educator Award from the District Administration, Mandi.
The book release ceremony was attended by senior education officials, members of Bharat Scouts and Guides and other dignitaries, who praised the author’s efforts to inspire educational reforms and promote excellence in the education sector.
