Shimla:

In a major step toward improving air connectivity and boosting tourism in the hill state, Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced the launch of heli taxi services connecting Shimla with key destinations including Kullu, Chandigarh, and Reckong Peo.

According to the minister, the new heli taxi routes aim to provide fast, convenient, and reliable travel options for residents and tourists alike, particularly in a mountainous state where road journeys can often be time-consuming due to traffic congestion and challenging terrain.

The heli taxi service has been introduced on the Shimla–Kullu, Shimla–Chandigarh, and Shimla–Reckong Peo routes, with ticket fares expected to range between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 4,000 per passenger for a one-way journey. The pricing structure has been designed in line with the government’s efforts to make air travel affordable and accessible, similar to the objectives of the UDAN Scheme aimed at enhancing regional air connectivity across India.

Vikramaditya Singh stated that the introduction of these helicopter services will significantly strengthen connectivity in remote and hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh. He emphasized that the initiative will not only benefit tourists but also improve accessibility for local residents, especially in areas where road travel can be lengthy or difficult.

The minister further highlighted that the heli taxi services will play a crucial role in promoting tourism, facilitating quicker travel during emergencies, and supporting economic activities in remote regions of the state. Improved air connectivity is expected to attract more visitors to popular tourist destinations while also ensuring faster movement of people during medical emergencies or natural disasters.

He added that such initiatives represent an important step toward modernizing transportation infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh. By connecting key towns through aerial routes, the state government aims to open new opportunities in tourism, healthcare access, and business development, particularly in the interior and high-altitude regions.

Vikramaditya Singh expressed confidence that the heli taxi service will become a game-changer for connectivity in the hill state, helping transform the way people travel in Himachal Pradesh and bringing distant destinations closer than ever before. He also encouraged travelers planning trips from Shimla to Kullu, Chandigarh, or Reckong Peo to consider the heli taxi as a fast and convenient alternative, making air travel just a booking away.
