Himachal Must Come Out of Debt Trap to Protect Future Generations: BJP MLA Prakash Rana.
Shimla:
BJP MLA from Jogindernagar in Mandi district, Prakash Rana, on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the rising debt burden of Himachal Pradesh and urged the state government to take effective measures to pull the hill state out of the financial crisis.
Speaking during the ongoing session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Shimla, Rana said that if immediate corrective steps are not taken, the state’s debt—estimated to reach around Rs. 1.5 lakh crore—will place a heavy burden on future generations.
Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, the BJP legislator questioned how the government would manage to arrange nearly Rs. 20,000 crore every year in the coming years to repay loans and interest. He warned that without strong financial planning and economic reforms, the state could face deeper fiscal stress.
Rana also advised the ruling Indian National Congress government in the state to adopt prudent financial policies and focus on strengthening revenue generation. According to him, long-term economic stability and self-reliance should be the priority to safeguard the interests of the people.
He emphasized that responsible fiscal management is essential to ensure that the financial burden is not passed on to the next generation of citizens in Himachal Pradesh.
