Shimla:
Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh visited Sarkaghat in Mandi district on Tuesday to meet the grieving family of the late college student Siya Guleria, whose tragic murder has sent shockwaves across the region.
Describing the visit as “deeply painful,” the minister expressed profound sorrow over the untimely death of the young student, who had left home with dreams of pursuing her college education but never returned. Siya, the middle of three sisters, had her entire life ahead of her. Her father, who works as a truck driver in Baddi to support the family, is now facing an unimaginable loss.
Speaking after meeting the family, Vikramaditya Singh said the incident has shaken the conscience of society. “This is Dev Bhoomi, where daughters are revered as goddesses. Such a heinous crime in broad daylight against an innocent student is not just a tragedy for one family but a matter of concern for every parent whose daughter steps out for education,” he stated.
The minister assured the bereaved family that the state government stands firmly with them in this difficult time and will extend all possible assistance. He confirmed that the accused has already been arrested and emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring a fast-track trial so that justice is delivered swiftly.
Reiterating the government’s resolve, Singh said that strict measures will be taken to ensure the safety and security of women across the state. “Ensuring the safety of daughters in Dev Bhoomi is our top priority. We are determined to bring the guilty to justice and prevent such incidents in the future,” he added.
The minister also expressed condolences, praying for peace for the departed soul and strength for the family to endure this irreparable loss.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with growing demands for stronger safety measures and swift justice for the victim.
