Senior journalist and social worker Subhash Chand Thakur on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the post of Zila Parishad member from Batheri Ward under Chauhar valley of Mandi district at Padhar, marking his formal entry into the local body election with a strong show of public support.

The nomination was filed at the office of the Sub-Divisional Election Officer in Padhar, where a large number of supporters, local residents, panchayat representatives, intellectuals, youth leaders, and members of women’s groups gathered to express solidarity and encouragement. The atmosphere remained energetic and enthusiastic throughout the process, reflecting growing support for his candidature in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Subhash Thakur said that he has spent nearly 27 years in journalism, consistently highlighting public concerns and social issues through his reporting. He stated that his decision to contest the election stems from a desire to serve people directly and work towards practical solutions for the problems faced by residents of the ward.

He emphasized that Batheri Ward possesses immense developmental potential but several areas still lack basic infrastructure and essential services. According to him, his priorities will include strengthening agriculture and horticulture, promoting tourism, improving rural roads, ensuring better drinking water supply, enhancing healthcare services, and creating self employment opportunities for youth.

Thakur further stated that farmers and orchardists form the backbone of the local economy, and special efforts would be made to help them access modern facilities and government welfare schemes. He also highlighted tourism as a major avenue for economic growth and self-employment, particularly for the younger generation.

Clarifying his political intentions, he said he has not entered politics for personal gain or contractual interests, but solely with the objective of public service and overall regional development. He added that the trust and blessings of the people are the foundation of his campaign.

The senior journalist also assured voters that he would personally visit every village and interact with every family to understand their concerns and raise their issues effectively at the district, state and centre level. “Public trust and respect are my biggest strengths,” he remarked.

Following the nomination, supporters expressed confidence that Subhash Thakur’s clean image, extensive social experience, and long-standing association with public issues would help bring a new direction to development in the region.

He concluded by saying that if elected, he would make every possible effort to transform Batheri Ward into a model region based on development, transparency, and active public participation.
