Indian Naval Ship Brahmaputra Suffers Incident During Refit.
New Delhi:
A distressing incident unfolded aboard the Indian Naval Ship Brahmaputra, a multi-role Frigate undergoing refit at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. According to reports, a fire erupted on the evening of 21st July 2024, which was promptly tackled by the ship’s crew and firefighters from Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, and other nearby vessels. The blaze was successfully brought under control by the morning of 22nd July 2024.
However, later in the afternoon of the same day, the ship experienced significant listing to its port side, despite concerted efforts to stabilize it. Regrettably, these efforts were unsuccessful, and the vessel continues to rest tilted alongside its berth.
Fortunately, all personnel onboard have been safely accounted for, except for one junior sailor who is currently the subject of an ongoing search operation. The Indian Navy has initiated an inquiry into the incident to ascertain the causes and circumstances leading to the fire outbreak and subsequent listing of the ship.
Further actions, including comprehensive assessments of residual risks and necessary sanitization checks, are underway. The Indian Naval authorities remain vigilant, ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved while maintaining readiness for any developments.
