15 Dead After Tourist Speedboat Carrying Indian Nationals Capsizes Off Vietnam.

At least 15 people have lost their lives after a tourist speedboat carrying Indian nationals capsized off the coast of southern Vietnam on Saturday, according to Vietnamese authorities. Rescue teams managed to save 21 people, while officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The accident occurred approximately 400 metres from Hon May Rut Ngoai Island, a popular tourist destination in the An Thoi Archipelago near Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island. The speedboat was reportedly carrying 32 Indian tourists and four Vietnamese crew members when it overturned in rough sea conditions.
According to local reports, strong winds and high waves struck the vessel during the journey, causing it to capsize. Nearby tourist boats quickly responded to the emergency, helping rescue passengers, with some survivors reportedly found trapped inside the overturned boat.
Authorities are continuing search and rescue operations while working to confirm the identities of those who died and those who survived. Some local media reports indicate that all of the victims may be Indian nationals, although officials have not yet released a final confirmation.
Nguyen Tien Hai, a senior official in the region, said the immediate focus remains on rescue efforts and providing medical treatment to survivors.
“The top priority is rescue, bringing all victims ashore and focusing all efforts on providing emergency care to those who are still alive,” he said.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam described the incident as a tragic accident and confirmed that 32 Indian nationals were aboard the vessel. The embassy has issued emergency helpline numbers and is coordinating with Vietnamese authorities to assist the victims and their families.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences following the tragedy.
“Extremely saddened to learn about the tragic news of a boat accident involving Indian nationals in Vietnam. My sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. My prayers for the early recovery of the injured survivors,” the Prime Minister wrote on X.
Hon May Rut Ngoai Island is a well-known destination for island-hopping excursions in the Gulf of Thailand, attracting visitors with its clear waters and beaches. The fatal accident has raised concerns over maritime safety as authorities investigate whether severe weather was the primary cause of the disaster.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are expected to provide further updates as rescue and recovery operations continue.
