The Vice-President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, on Tuesday emphasized the need for positive, ethical and human-centric use of Artificial Intelligence, asserting that India is well positioned to guide the world in responsible AI development. He was addressing the Flagship National Conclave on “AI Evolution – The Mahakumbh of AI”, organised by Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Outlook magazine at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre here.

In his address, the Vice-President said that Artificial Intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day reality influencing sectors such as healthcare diagnostics, climate modelling, governance, education, finance and national security. He noted that AI is reshaping the way societies function and how individuals live and work.

Dispelling fears surrounding technological advancements, the Vice-President said there was no reason to be pessimistic about modern science and technology. Drawing parallels with the initial resistance to computers, he observed that every technological breakthrough carries both opportunities and challenges, and the responsibility lies in ensuring its constructive and beneficial use.

He pointed out that India has emerged as one of the leading nations in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Warning against complacency, he stressed that the rapidly changing global landscape demands continuous progress and innovation, adding that India must keep pace with developed nations in AI research and application.

On the occasion, the Vice-President released AI curricula and underlined the importance of integrating Artificial Intelligence into school and college education. He said early exposure to AI would help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving abilities and future-ready skills essential in a technology-driven world. He further stated that educational institutions must continuously evolve and transform into centres of excellence, innovation and AI knowledge hubs.

Highlighting India’s demographic advantage, the Vice-President said that nearly 65 per cent of the country’s population is below the age of 35. If effectively harnessed, he noted, this demographic dividend could propel India to the forefront of global AI leadership.

He also underlined the significant role of Artificial Intelligence in achieving the goals of a self-reliant, inclusive and technologically empowered Aatma Nirbhar and Viksit Bharat @ 2047.

Stressing the importance of ethical AI, the Vice-President said that no scientific advancement should cause harm to humanity. Technology, he said, must ultimately help people live happier, more prosperous and dignified lives. Artificial Intelligence, he added, should complement human intelligence and be guided by strong ethical principles to serve social welfare and the public good.

Concluding his address, the Vice-President expressed confidence that India, with its vast talent pool, strong values and clear vision, would not only adopt Artificial Intelligence responsibly but also play a leading role in shaping its global future.

The conclave was attended by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood; Vice-Chancellor of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Verma; AICTE representative Prof. T. G.
