Vipin Parmar Urges Fact-Based Discussion on SIR and Electoral Roll Revision.
Shimla:
Former Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vipin Singh Parmar urged a fact-based discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and electoral roll revision process during a press conference at the BJP Keylong Mandal office.
Parmar said the Election Commission of India is a constitutional institution and matters concerning the electoral process should be discussed on the basis of verified facts and official information. He was addressing concerns and allegations raised by the Congress and other opposition parties regarding SIR.
Explaining the process, Parmar said SIR involves the revision and verification of electoral rolls from the Assembly constituency level to the booth level. The exercise includes checking and updating essential details of voters, including their names, age and addresses, wherever required.
He also highlighted the role of Form-6 in the electoral process, stating that eligible citizens can use the prescribed procedure to seek inclusion of their names in the voter list.
Parmar said there was a need to create awareness about the actual procedure instead of allowing confusion to prevail among the public. He emphasised that ensuring every eligible citizen gets the right to vote and maintaining accurate and updated electoral rolls are important for a healthy democratic system.
Former MLA and BJP State Working Committee member Ravi Thakur was also present. Pangi-Bharmour MLA Dr Janak Raj, district president Rigzin Samphel Hayerpa and district general secretary Sanjay Katoch also attended the press conference, where various issues related to elections, voter lists and constitutional institutions were discussed.
