Opposition Undermining Democratic Institutions, Says ZP Kullu Chairman Thakur Das.

Shimla:

Zila Parishad Kullu Chairman Thakur Das has accused opposition leaders of attempting to undermine the credibility of the country’s democratic and constitutional institutions. He said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has full faith in the democratic system and the electoral process.

Thakur Das said elections in the country are conducted independently, fairly and transparently, and that people continue to exercise their franchise with confidence in the democratic system. He alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly raised questions over the electoral process and the impartiality of the Election Commission, while making allegations that, according to him, lack substance.

He further said that the Congress leadership’s approach towards democratic institutions had remained similar in the past and warned that BJP workers would have to take to the streets if such allegations continued.

Manali Municipal Council president Chandra Padain also rejected the opposition’s allegations, describing its claims as misleading. Referring to a letter reportedly sent to the Cabinet Secretary, she said the opposition’s position had been exposed and alleged that a report published by an English daily was based on inaccurate and fictional claims.

Padain claimed that there had been no changes to Form 6 and said the Supreme Court had upheld the existing process. She added that the Election Commission was committed to ensuring that every eligible citizen could exercise the right to vote.

She also alleged that Rahul Gandhi and members of the INDIA bloc were repeatedly attempting to discredit constitutional institutions, while asserting that the Election Commission and Supreme Court had established the security and reliability of electronic voting machines.
