ICMR Project Foundation Ceremony in Keylong on October 12; BJP leader Ravi Thakur Invites Residents to Attend.

Shimla:

Former Lahaul-Spiti MLA and BJP State Working Committee member Ravi Thakur has appealed to residents of Lahaul-Spiti to participate in large numbers in the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the proposed Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) project scheduled to be held in Keylong Lahaul-Spiti district on October 12.

According to the proposed programme, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut, and Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth are expected to attend the event.

Ravi Thakur said land identification for the ICMR project had already been completed. He expressed hope that the establishment of the research centre would promote healthcare and medical research in the region, benefiting local residents as well as Army personnel deployed in border areas.

Highlighting healthcare challenges in Lahaul-Spiti, Thakur stressed the need to strengthen local hospitals by ensuring adequate medical staff, essential medicines and improved treatment facilities. He pointed out that patients often have to be referred to Kullu for advanced treatment, causing difficulties for residents of the remote region.

He also urged panchayat representatives and other local officials to attend the programme and raise development-related demands and public concerns, ensuring that these issues reach the appropriate authorities.

Thakur described the proposed project as an important step towards advancing medical research in the region.
