Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that moral education would be introduced in schools from the next academic session, with the syllabus currently being prepared. He made the announcement while interacting with students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school in Kaza, Spiti Valley, on Wednesday.

During the interaction, the Chief Minister encouraged students to work hard, set clear goals and strive for success. He responded to their questions and listened to their concerns regarding educational facilities and residential infrastructure.

The students thanked him for affiliating their school with the CBSE, saying it would provide better educational opportunities in the remote tribal region. They informed him that the school had 85 students, including 46 girls residing in the hostel, and highlighted shortages of a cook, cleaning staff and a female warden.

Sukhu assured them that separate hostels for boys and girls would be constructed, along with residential accommodation for teachers. He also promised adequate funds to improve the school building and facilities, including addressing problems related to cold classrooms and insufficient lighting. He said efforts would be made to complete the upgradation work by the next academic session.

Responding to a student’s suggestion to include environmental studies in the curriculum, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of environmental protection, stating that human survival depended on the environment.

The students also sought special coaching facilities to help them prepare for competitive examinations without travelling outside Spiti. Sukhu assured them that the government would take positive steps in this direction and introduce skill training courses in the region. Specialised tourism-related training would also be considered to expand employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth.

Speaking about tourism, the Chief Minister said the government was developing projects to increase local income and generate employment. He added that tourist arrivals had increased following the organisation of Himachal Day celebrations in Spiti.

He also informed the students that an ice hockey stadium was being constructed in the region, which could provide opportunities to host international-level events in the future.

MLA Anuradha Rana was also present on the occasion.
