Rajput Mahasabha Seeks Permanent Swarna Commission, Appeals to Ruling and Opposition MLAs for Support.

Shimla:

The Rajput Mahasabha Himachal Pradesh has urged the state government to establish a permanent Swarna Commission for the general category and take concrete policy measures to address the educational, employment, economic and social concerns of the Rajput community and economically weaker sections of the general category.

The Mahasabha has submitted an eight-point agenda to the government, emphasising that its demands are intended to ensure equal opportunities and development for needy families without affecting the rights of other communities.

In a joint statement, Mahasabha state president Engineer K.S. Jamwal and Mandi district president Dr. Amar Singh Guleria said the eight-point agenda was presented to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during a Rajput Welfare Board meeting on September 2, 2026. Detailed proposals, along with a concept paper, have subsequently been sent to Cabinet ministers, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the Leader of the Opposition.

The Mahasabha has appealed to legislators from both the ruling party and the opposition to raise these issues in the Assembly and other appropriate government forums to facilitate their resolution.

The foremost demand is the establishment of a permanent Swarna Commission for the general category, on the lines of commissions constituted for other communities. The Mahasabha has also called for the withdrawal of what it describes as the UGC’s controversial regulations and sought a review of provisions of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act to prevent misuse and ensure impartial investigations.

Another key demand concerns amendments to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) criteria. The organisation has proposed increasing the annual family income limit from Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh in line with the Central Government’s criteria, along with reviewing restrictions related to agricultural land and permanent houses. It has also sought scholarships, books, uniforms, hostel facilities, coaching and financial assistance for EWS students.

The Mahasabha has proposed restructuring the Himachal Excellence-60 programme under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to provide free coaching, education, accommodation and meals to 60 selected students annually from rural areas and economically weaker families for JEE, NEET and NDA examinations. It has also demanded a state-level competitive examination academy for UPSC, HPAS, SSC, banking and defence services.

Other demands include bonafide Himachali requirements for general-category candidates in Class III and IV government recruitment, establishment of a Rajput Welfare Bhawan in Shimla, reconsideration of creamy-layer and sub-classification issues in SC/ST reservations, and expert committees to examine the proposals.

The Mahasabha has urged the Rajput Welfare Board to pursue all eight demands effectively with the government.
