Himachal CM Directs Introduction of Moral Science from Class I to Promote Ethical Values Among Students.
Shimla:
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Wednesday directed the Education Department to introduce Moral Science from Class I in government schools to inculcate ethical values, discipline, compassion, respect for elders and a sense of responsibility among children from an early age.
The Chief Minister issued the directions while presiding over a meeting with senior officers of the Education Department in Shimla. He emphasised that education should not be limited to academic achievements but must also focus on character-building, moral values and the overall development of students.
During the meeting, Sukhu reviewed the implementation of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum in government schools and stressed the need to ensure the availability of qualified teachers, adequate administrative staff and a conducive learning environment.
He directed the department to expedite the recruitment and deployment process for 600 Junior Basic Teacher (JBT) posts earmarked for CBSE schools. He also instructed officials to ensure the availability of teachers in 100 new schools and address staffing requirements in a planned manner to facilitate their smooth functioning.
The Chief Minister reviewed the requirement for ministerial staff and Class-IV employees in CBSE schools. He directed the officers concerned to assess the staffing needs of these institutions and take necessary action in accordance with the prescribed norms.
Emphasising the importance of strengthening the education system, Sukhu also reviewed the progress of recruitment under the New Scheme Based Recruitment initiative. The process involves filling 3,900 teaching posts and 900 non-teaching posts.
He stressed the need for effective monitoring and accountability to ensure that recruitment and deployment decisions were implemented in a timely manner. Adequate staffing, he said, was essential for improving the functioning of government schools and ensuring that students received quality education.
The Chief Minister said the state government was committed to improving educational standards, strengthening government institutions and providing students with a better learning environment.
He reiterated that educational reforms should address both academic performance and the development of responsible citizens. Introducing moral education at the primary level, he said, would help children develop positive values and a sense of social responsibility during their formative years.
Secretary Education Dr. Yunus, Director of School Education Ashish Kohli and other senior officers of the Education Department attended the meeting.
