Pranav Soorma, a prominent figure in para-athletics, has captured global attention with his exceptional performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Competing in the Men’s Club Throw F51 category, Soorma clinched a silver medal, showcasing his remarkable skill and resilience on the world stage.

Born on October 4, 1994, in Faridabad, Haryana, Soorma’s path to success has been anything but conventional. At the age of 16, a severe spinal cord injury from a falling cement sheet left him paralyzed, but Soorma’s unyielding spirit turned adversity into opportunity. Following a period of recovery and meditation, he discovered para-sports, eventually excelling in para-athletics.

Soorma’s achievements extend beyond his Paralympic success. At the 2022 Asian Para Games, he set an Asian record with a 30.01-meter throw and won the gold medal. His impressive track record includes gold medals at the Serbia Open (2023, 2024) and the Czech International Championships (2024), as well as notable performances at the Tunis Grand Prix and the 2024 World Championships.

In addition to his sports career, Soorma has achieved academic excellence, securing a 91.2% in his 12th board exams and completing a postgraduate degree in commerce from the Delhi School of Economics. Currently an Assistant Manager at the Bank of Baroda, he adeptly balances his professional responsibilities with his athletic commitments.

The Indian government’s support through the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) has been instrumental in Soorma’s success, providing him with financial aid, training facilities, and essential sports equipment.

Pranav Soorma’s journey from a life-altering injury to Paralympic glory is a testament to his perseverance and dedication. His silver medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics not only underscores his remarkable athleticism but also inspires others to pursue their dreams with determination and belief.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Pranav Soorma for achieving this feat.
