High Court Ruling on Employees’ Pending Dues Sparks Debate Over Government’s Employee Welfare Claims: Ajay Rana.
Shimla:
The Himachal Pradesh High Court’s recent directions regarding the payment of pending arrears of revised pay scales, pensions and other retirement benefits have drawn attention to the financial concerns of government employees and pensioners, with BJP state spokesperson Ajay Rana calling for timely settlement of their dues.
Reacting to the High Court’s October 31, 2026, judgment, Rana said the decision had raised important questions about the government’s responsibility towards serving and retired employees who were awaiting their entitled financial benefits.
According to the court’s directions, the pending arrears of revised pay and retirement benefits payable to the petitioners are to be released in two equal instalments. The first instalment is scheduled by December 15, 2026, and the second by February 28, 2027. The court has also directed payment of simple interest at six per cent annually on eligible arrears.
Rana said financial constraints and administrative considerations should not result in indefinite delays in settling employees’ legitimate dues.
He emphasised that pensioners, particularly those who have spent their working lives serving the state, deserve timely payments and financial security after retirement.
He urged the state government to prepare a clear, time-bound roadmap for clearing pending liabilities and ensure that employees and pensioners receive their entitled benefits with dignity.
