7-Day Ice Hockey Training Program Concludes Successfully in Keylong Lahaul and Spiti.

The 7-day basic Ice Hockey training program, under the “Learn to Skate” initiative, concluded successfully at the district headquarters of Keylong on Wednesday. The event saw the participation of several prominent figures, including the Vice-President of the Gram Panchayat of Keylong, Nawang Chering, who was the chief guest. Members of the Panchayat from various wards, including Kanta Tholgap, Wangyal Wangyal, Dorje Tashi, Rigzin, and Angmo, attended the event as special guests.

In his address, Nawang Chering expressed his satisfaction over the success of the program, which was aimed at introducing children to the basics of Ice Hockey. He extended gratitude to the Keylong Gram Panchayat and the Ice Hockey Association of Lahaul Spiti for their pivotal role in organizing the event. Chering also appreciated the local volunteers who braved sub-zero temperatures for 25 days to help prepare the rink.

Chering further announced plans to conduct advanced Ice Hockey training programs in the future and expressed the Panchayat’s efforts to create a dedicated Ice Hockey rink for children in the region.

During the ceremony, the coaches from the Ice Hockey Association of Lahaul Spiti, Kesang Dikit and Tenzin Pap, were honored for their contributions. Women from the Sangye Swayam Sahita Group of Keylong were also recognized for their support in organizing the event.

The training program saw 72 participants, including 62 students from various schools and 10 local volunteers. The event was held daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the rink being prepared each night until 1 a.m. for the following day’s training.

The organizers, including Gram Panchayat President Sonam Jangpo, Rahul Rohall, Ashok Miyas, Devi Singh, Sunil, and Tenzin, thanked the district administration, school principal Ramesh Lal Yoterpa, and the Ice Hockey Association for their contributions, and expressed hopes to continue promoting such sports events for the youth of the region.
