Teling-Mud Bailey Bridge Launched in Spiti, Ensuring Safer Winter Connectivity Amid Avalanche Threats.
Shimla:
The Public Works Department (PWD) and its Mechanical Wing have successfully launched the Teling-Mud Bailey Bridge in the remote Pin Valley region of Spiti, providing a safer alternative route for villagers and travellers ahead of the harsh winter season.
The bridge is expected to significantly reduce the difficulties faced by residents of Teling and Mud villages, whose existing road connectivity becomes highly vulnerable to heavy snowfall and avalanches during winter. The old route often faces the risk of avalanches, disrupting connectivity and creating serious difficulties for residents, particularly during medical emergencies and for accessing essential supplies.
The new bridge will help maintain connectivity between the two villages and the rest of the region even during adverse weather conditions.
Chewang Rigzin, member of the Tribal Advisory Committee and senior Congress leader, appreciated the efforts of SDO Bhim Sen Negi, head of the Mechanical Wing, and his team for completing the work under extremely challenging conditions. He also thanked the Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineer, local administration, PWD field staff and labourers for their contribution.
Chewang said that completing the project in sub-zero temperatures and difficult geographical conditions reflected the dedication and commitment of the engineering team. He described the bridge as a major relief for residents of Teling and Mud during winter.
The project has also added another achievement to SDO Bhim Sen Negi’s record. He has successfully launched 120 Bailey bridges so far, demonstrating his expertise in restoring connectivity in remote and difficult mountainous areas.
The launch has brought relief and happiness among local residents, who expect safer and more reliable transportation during the snowfall season.
