Kejriwal Announces he will Resign as Delhi CM with in two days, Calls for Early Elections.
New Delhi:
Arvind Kejriwal, the convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced his resignation as Delhi Chief Minister during an address to party workers at the AAP headquarters on Sunday. Kejriwal stated he would step down in two days and called for early elections in Delhi, proposing that they be held alongside Maharashtra’s polls in November, rather than the scheduled February 2025 date.
Kejriwal emphasized his commitment to transparency and integrity, vowing not to return to the Chief Minister’s chair until he receives a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi.
He criticized the BJP, claiming their fear of AAP’s honesty stems from their own lack of integrity. He mentioned his recent legal battles, stating he would wait for a verdict from the public rather than engaging in what he described as “power from money and money from power.”
Reflecting on his incarceration and the current state of his colleagues, Kejriwal drew parallels to letters written by Bhagat Singh during British rule and expressed hope for the release of Satyendar Jain and Amanatullah Khan, who remain in jail.
